Got a phone call last night that Burt was hurt in SER on Sunday. I was told he was alert when he was placed in the ambulance but don't know much more than that.  I don't want to start a bunch of speculation but if you have verified info as to Burts condition please share it with us.

Dennis,    Dawn and I stop by  the  hospital  and  talked  to Burt in person. No broken bones  - a lot  of  brusing  on  the  left  side  of  his  neck  and  a  lot  of  pulled  muscles.  They did an MRI and  found  nothing  serious.  I believe  he  was  going  to stay with Larry Conners.  So  all in all ,  he  was lucky  and  is  doing great .

Talked with Burt Monday morning just before he was to get "sprung" from the joint... said he hurt, but was contemplating the question we all considered for him.... and that was:

"Do I repair the runabout, or just buy a new one!!!"

Hang in there Burt, despite all the crap you get from us, you are certainly held in high esteem and we're glad you weren't seriously injured!!

Burt is to cheap to buy a new boat, he will find a used one.

Glad he is okay, put a scare in us all.  That sure was shaping up to be a great race in SER.  Did anyone confirm if he hit a submerged log or cement in that spot off turn one ?

Did anyone see any damage to Burt's rig after the incident? I had made a few sweeps down that stretch on Friday taking depth soundings and found the water to be not less than 9 feet when at least 10-15 feet from the bank. Sat morning I moved the course further out from the shore by relocating turn number two and tighting turn one. It appeared from the judges stand that he swung awfully wide on his turn exit. I thought he was going to hit the bank.

The lower unit was seriously impacted from hitting something . Boat had the nose shortened about a foot when he hit  Mike Kirkendahl. Tore the heck out of Mikes  cowl and pan assembly. on the Tohatsu Also did damage to the boat. All I can say Burt you are one old tough dog to have survived that crash. Hope you get better soon.

Talked to Burt today and he said he is on the road to recovery, he said the top priority is to find his gear case and prop in the bottom of Raccoon Lake. Wish you the best Burt, take it easy the dive team will be here on  the 24th and I will call as soon as we get it.

So glad you got some divers to go hunt for that lower... !!!

And, yes, Art's right, Burt... you're a tough son of a gun!!!

Dan

O-66   (I picked up the nose of the runabout and threw it in the boat as they were loading it. I'd thought about wrapping it in a deflated buoy and sending to to Burt!)
