I am excited to see NBRA establish records for our classes.  We use to do this every few years.  There is considerable amount of work involved.   Our rule book requires a class two inspection of record runs.  If we are serious about the records, the motors establishing a record should be torn down to prove all measuements meet the spec.s.   This requires a good inspector that has experience in these matters.  We have set four APBA records and the motors were torn down and all parts measured and inspected.  We need to appoint a proven inspector to carry out these duties or this is just for fun...This is a job for the commisssioners....

Doc thanks for your concerns,  however homeboy here has the program well under control . Since we race on Sat and Sunday - do you want to have your motor torn down so you can reassembe it  Friday night  before the nationals. Our motor inspector will perform an inspection iaw our rule book . If you want an additional tear down for your motors we'll be glad to take them down to the main bearings . My cordless impact will strip an engine in 10 minutes .  Also note the inspector does none of the work , only inspecting  so bring what you need to dissassemble the engine yourself.  Did you volunteer to be fuel inspector ???  I thought so .

Dang Vernon ,  the pressure  cooker  must  be  high  , as  I can imagine - but - I have  always  wondered what  the  inspectors  inspect myself.  I have been back 3 yrs  and even though  they say "were going  to tear you down"  I have  yet  to see it  happen  to me  or anyone  else at  a championship event . AND hey , iam always  happy  the  way  it  is ,as  I have  no desire  to  tear down my engine .  I think Doc  is  not  trying  to be picky or  give  you problems , he is  just going  by  what the rule book requires.  Maybe at  national meeting  we  ought  to change  rule book  to meet  what  really happens , then no one has to worry about  it.   APBA is  pretty strict on just about  everything  - from what I have  experience  - NBRA is  not  -  at least  on engines - which makes  me happy. But if  we have  a rule  book and it states  we are  to  do things  a certain way  - then - it should  be  done  that way -- or change it at National meeting.  Vernon , you added  the  straight-a-way records  event  to  your program  -  so unfortunely -  you also should abide by whatever  the current rule book says.  if it  says  a complete tear-down  , then that  is  the  way  it is.  I do hope  you calm down  a little and  I hope  the race goes smooth for you - a lot of hard work with very few helpers.

Yes, the participant does the tear down.  Have you appointed an inspector?  Brill from Indiana is a good inspector and some of those guys are comeing, I know cliff Johnson is comeing.  I can help with fuel inspection, we need to set up like we do for the turn judges, ie flights.  Devil is always in the details...

Roy Macky is the Referee and as we should , we will follow the rule book and Macky knows it well .  Jeff Ruth the Motor Inspector has an explicit inspection procedure to follow .  He said he woud do his best to weed out the cheaters .  Fortunatey our rules  provide specs that can easly be inspected by , pulling intake , side covers and exhaust systems , there isn't much left unless you want to see how a guy bevels his crank or balances his rods . All which are legal in the 3 and 4 cyl . In the two holers after a cc check a port check , reed stops , gear ratio and maybe ventri size  it would be hard to cheat   Port specs are easy to check and reed stop heights are 5 minutes away .  Exhaust systems fall off with 5 or 6 bolts... The stuff we run now days is easy to check.  Maybe we can get NBRA to buy a Borescope to look inside blocks for padding .  Busting blocks apart just for the sake of saying it  is pointless .  I'm not the inspector so whatever the MAJORITY wants i'm all in !!! Just can't cost more money .

As the inspector at the Garnett this year and I am happy to do the job, I will be more than happy to oblige anyone that wants to tear there engine down, but ya all have to remember that I also race , so inspections will be done , after the races, and as I have the time to do so. I did DQ 3 engines at rockaway, so no problem for me, but I am sure that if you bring over your wrenches, and tear down for me  I will inspect, but do remember that, if you are racing on sat , that means a rebuild fri nite if ya set a record, also, SC nats on sat so if ya win and wanna race on sunday, thats another tear down. so I guess for the yamoto guys bring lots of head gaskets, O ya I have been asked to inspect , at McAllister for the LC nats, and I do assure you that all engines willbe comming down to the bearings, I have a ton of mics and calipers that are just dying to get used, See ya all in Garnett   Jeff

Larry,

One of them was me.  Not being as familar with the engine requirments as I should be.  I was DQ'd for not running a restrictor plate.  Live and learn.

Thanks Jeff for doing the inspection.  Bring fingernail polish to seal the record setting motors until Sunday, if the motor will be used Sat. or Sund.  One inspection that could be easly checked after a record run is the A restrictor.  I have one that you can use to compare.  In the last APBA, the C stock flywheel was cut down and painted.  Since this item that is not observable and is rarely checked, this would help the acceleration..
