Bryan Tharp gave me a "test tube" device marketed by Mercury Marine that is a simple test for alcohol content in fuel. One fills the tube to a prescribed line with tap water, then fills to another line with fuel being sampled, cap the tube, shake and allow it to settle a few minutes. The alcohol content is represented on a percentage scale at the point where the two liquids separate. The local ConocoPhillips "regular" is running about 7% ethanol. This inexpensive tool is one answer to some of the questions that have been raised on this site and in e-mails. Dan O-66

Tech committee rules call for 10% ethanol (with a plus or minus 5% cushion to account for differences in pumps and gas stations). 5% minimum to participate in contingency program. This is in conjunction with a digitron test at the site to determine what numbers correspond to locally-purchased fuel with a range of plus or minus 10%. Dan O-66
