Please note that the Somerville season opener is now shown to be on 7and 8 May. That is somewhat earlier than previously scheduled. Looking forward to a big turnout. Jack

Jeff, I'm afraid I don't have the answer but Mark Daspit lives very close and would be more qualified to answer your question. Hopefully Mark will read this and respond. Jack

Unfourtunately my powers of prediction don't go out that far. I'm currently using most of my Bandwidth trying to predict what the S&P is going to do in 2011...
Here's the thing. The Lonestar Club had a lengthy discussion about this very issue, and the Board of Directors decided that the Presient, Dennis Burke, who is also the Texas State Director, would present the issues of this race to the NBRA at last years Membership Meeting.
I heard that the decision was to put the Somerville race on the NBRA schedule...because of the advantages of the City of Somerville and the County Executives' enthusiasm to have NBRA race at their Sasauge Festival...plus a few thousand $ of tow and prize money far outweighed any potential problem with the weather.
Also, I heard that there has been a promise from the County to halt any boat traffic in the area.
Mind you, I don't know this as fact, but I assume it to be accurate.
I will be happy to monitor the weather as we get closer to the date.
Maybe some LSORA members may care to comment?

Righto...
It is entirely possible that time of year, that the weather will be absolutely perfect. 80*, clear, flawless deep blue sky. That's the transistion time of year, in-between the cold North wind, and the hot humid Gulf breeze that brings humidity in the Summer.
The Monarch Butterflies are on their annual migration through Lake Somerville, and can fill the sky with a kalidascope of bright yellow, blue, with flashes of fushia, all in soft focus, as their wings are back lit by the warm Texas sun... That is spectacular on it's own, but in addition, the pastures and fields and roadsides are awash in azure blue as the Bluebonnets stretch their sleepy little arms to the sun after waking from their winter slumber, their perfume filling the air with the aroma of fresh baked Buckwheat Cakes.
On the sides of the road, are the friendly, smiling faces of Texas familys sitting with their children among the wildflowers, with their gigham checked picnic cloths spread out on the ground enjoying their picnic baskets filled with Texas fried chicken, potato salad, and the fresh natural goodness of Bluebell Ice Cream kissed with just the right amount of organicaly grown, and eco-harvested Vanilla from the Spice Islands.
Ahhh yes boys....Welcome to Texas in the Springtime.
