I want to say thanks to the friends I have made in this boat racing family we call the NBRA.
As some of you know my dad Lynn Crews has terminal cancer. The doctors won't say how long he has to live but they did say that 12 months would be a really long time given the circumstances. A matter of months is more like it unless God performs a miracle.
LSORA will be hosting our first race in Bryan/ College Station, TX in September and as president I planned on being an integral part of organizing that race. My priorities have changed. Mom and Dad really need me right now and I wouldn't think of being anywhere esle. Others are stepping up to do what needs to be done for the race. I have spoken to Jeff Ruth and Mark Daspit ( who obtained the race site ) to apologize for not being able to do what I committed to do in this regard and both men absolutely understand what I have to do and fully support me. Gentlemen, this means the world to me.
It is because of Dad, my uncles Bob and Dave Lowrey, and my grandpa Andy Lowrey that I love this sport. I spent many, many hours in the Lowrey boat shop following Grandpa around picking up scraps of wood, handing him screws, holding the can of glue for him that he had just mixed and anything else I could be a part of. To a wide-eyed boy it all seemed larger than life to me. I remember Dad and Art Kampen racing side by side many times when I was a kid. I always had the best stories to tell at school. What a great way to grow up.
Boat racing will be different for me when Dad is gone but make no mistake I will always cherish the friendships I have made in this sport. It truly is a family.
I will so you all at another race when he time is right.
