All,
While I had planned to make the Pineville race, I've decided to go ahead with an arthroscopic knee surgery that has been lurking for a while. Better to do it now than later and, if all goes well, I should be up and around within a few days and able to make Mansfield and Hominy with no problem. Since our sport does involve lounging around on soft cushions driving our boats, I figured all the help my knees could get now would save me lots of problems down the road. So, for now, the yellow boats are going to remain dry. I'll be thinking of you all...have fun and stay safe on that turn coming out of the backstretch!!! (Surgery is Thursday).

Good luck Dan. I guess it depends on what all is wrong and how badly your knee is damaged as to how long it takes to recover. I had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee almost 10 months ago. That was the second time for that knee so the doc that did the arthroscopic surgery didn't have a lot to work with. The first time I think the doc whacked it with a machete to open it up. Anyway.... while I have no doubt that I could kneel to drive a hydro, it's the rest of what is involved that I can't do. I can walk just fine on level, even surfaces, but uneven surfaces and stairs and such are still a problem. Right now I don't want to chance re-injuring my knee so I'm not going to try to race. Rotten Ralph will be driving for me again. The doc said that I was looking at total replacement if anything else has to be done.... I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Dave, thanks for the well wishes. This probably is minor, and I figure it to be an investment in not having to replace the knee someday...but when that time comes I'll darn sure do it, if there are any doctors still practicing and the government will let me get one at my age!
I just get tired of nagging pain from climbing ladders, getting in and out of the bed of my pickup, and in general just using it.

Sorry to hear that you won't be there Dan. I was looking forward to seeing you and Jerrie again. Road Runner and Wylie Coyote will be threre in spirit though. Hope all goes well next Thursday. Dennis

Best of luck on your surgery and recovery Dan. Hope all goes well but don't rush it and cause yourself further complications. DOUG

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I'm confident it won't be too big of a deal...just need to get it done. I worked with the OBRA crew on the trailer today and didn't have too much trouble, but I also took care of it and didn't jump off the trailer or go bounding up the ladder on the rescue boat... hey, they'd painted the ladder!!! I used to gripe about Butch Webb not heating his shop when we met there... hey, Dudley made us work outside in the sun!!!! Dan O-49
